Night Permits For 2023 - Here's The Info You've All Been Waiting For!

As many of you know already, and for those who are new to Telford Angling Association, Some of our waters are subject to a limit on the amount of anglers that are able to night fish on them.

These rules were set by the council following complaints and concerns by the neighbours of the pools over illicit behaviour and noise. It's very sad that this had to happen, and it was very disappointing for us as a club to know that a minority of our anglers were causing public concerns which led to the enforcement of the rules.

With that being said, TAA were still able to offer night fishing on these waters, but we had to limit the number of anglers who could night fish on them, and therefore TAA started offering "special night permits" for these waters as an add-on to the yearly memberships (permits, licences, tickets... whatever you want to call it).

Since the introduction of these night permits, we are glad to say that complaints related to night fishing has reduced dramatically, Illicit behaviour is virtually non-existent, and there is far less human waste being left around the pools whether bagged or not. Yes, this was an issue believe it or not!

Hopefully now, you will understand the reasoning behind the need for night permits.

What Are The Details For The 2023 Night Permits?

Waters Where A Permit Is Required:

  • Trench Pool

  • Big Apley Pool (Apley Woods)

  • Priorslee Flash (Hangman's Pool)

Number Of Permits Are Available?

There are 45 tickets available for each pool. You will need to buy one for each of the pools you want to night fish.

When Are The Applications Released?

Applications for Trench, Big Apley and Priorslee Flash will be available to collect on SATURDAY 29th APRIL from Allyson Smith (TAA Secretary) at ROD & GUN tackle shop in Dawley at 9:00 am.

What Do I Need To Apply For A TAA Night Permit?

  • You MUST already hold a TAA yearly membership (available HERE), and be able to provide proof.

  • You will also need a small passport size photograph clearly showing your whole head/face and the top of your shoulders, which will need to be attached to the application form when completed.

  • You will need to read the rules and also sign that you agree to adhere to them at all times when night fishing TAA waters.

  • All applications have to returned to Rod & Gun by the 2nd week in May at the latest!

If you are successful in your application, you will need to pay £35.00 for the years night fishing permit. You will be contacted to complete this if you are selected.

IF YOU WERE SUCCESSFUL LAST YEAR, AND YOU DID NOT COLLECT YOUR PERMIT, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE TAKEN OFF THE APPLICATIONS FOR THIS YEAR. THE SAME APPLIES FOR NEXT YEAR, AND SO ON.

This is to keep it fair, as if an angler applies for a ticket, and does not collect the permit, which means that they have not used it, someone else should have been given the opportunity to fish. Applying for "other anglers" to lessen the numbers of anglers on the pool during the night will only get you taken off the list in the future!!

I Want A Night Permit But I Cannot Make It On The 29th April.

If, after the initial application day there are some forms left, Allyson will arrange a second date to be at Rod & Gun for the remainder of the forms to be collected. If this is the case, notification will be on this blog, and Facebook.

How Are The Applications Chosen?

All Applications will be put in the order that they arrive back at Rod & Gun by the 2nd Week in May.

Then, The applications will be checked that they are filled in correctly, rules have been agreed to, and have a passport size photo attached.

Any incomplete applications will be removed from the list.

Then it is a simple case of first come first served by those that have paid.

NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE RESERVED IN ADVANCE FOR LATER COLLECTION OR PUT TO THE "TOP OF THE LIST".

Thank You and good luck!!

Tight Lines All.

Is there an age restriction or is it as long as they’re accompanied by an adult and under supervision?
